Britain in Bloom

Britain’s nationwide gardening competition is a powerful tool for building communities and tackling local issues together

Celebrated 60 years of Bloom in 2024

In 2024, we celebrated the 60th anniversary of Britain in Bloom. Over the years, Bloom has continued to bring people together, forged life-long relationships and enriched lives.

The theme for the milestone year was ‘friendship,’ and RHS invited groups to share stories of friendships that have blossomed because of Britain in Bloom, It’s Your Neighbourhood or other community gardening projects – it was a joyful year celebrating friendship and fun!

Why should your group join?

Registered groups receive:

  • An annual visit by an experienced Britain in Bloom judge, who provides tailored feedback, tips and advice to build on your group’s progress
  • Recognition of achievement for all the hard work that your teams have carried out
  • Membership to a nationwide network of passionate community gardeners
  • The opportunity to purchase affordable insurance cover, specifically created for community gardening groups
  • Advice from expert RHS horticultural advisors
  • Access to a range of seed giveaways

Positive impacts of taking part:

  • Increased visitor numbers and a stronger local economy
  • A stronger sense of pride of place, contributing to reductions in crime and anti-social behaviour
  • A cleaner and greener place to live and visit, with higher environmental awareness
  • New partnerships between local authorities, businesses and community groups
  • More funding opportunities to support specific activities
  • Higher volunteer numbers, enabling groups to have a bigger impact
